Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur, Best Business Idea - Runner Up - Spicy Dog Media…. Video Production Company Roscommon!

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve managed to win another award for the company. Spicy Dog Media has yet again proved its award winning social media, video production status! Being the best at video production in Roscommon.

We took part in this years IBYE competition, up against some very tough competition! Yet we managed to come out on top! The company had to submit a business plan, attend interviews and a business boot-camp in Delphi Co. Mayo, and our founder Peter Kilmartin had to pitch to a panel of judges in a dragon’s den style environment.

It was a great experience for the company, and a great networking opportunity. We’re proud to be based in Roscommon, and to be helping local businesses get their story out there!

Spicy Dog Media specialise in video production for social media platforms. We tailor content for each individual platform allowing business owners to post professional content packages online. Corporate video production is also a strong point, and we’ve done numerous corporate video packages in Roscommon.

Boring small Business? - How to win on social media!

Boring small Business? - How to win on social media!

I often get asked how to create content and post on social media for businesses that may not be the most flashey and 'clickable'.

The simple trick here is to bring genuine value to the other end user. I mean genuine value. Bring enough value, gather an audience and you will be rewarded with the results.

The Result of Months of Hard Work - Pays Off! A Semi - Viral Video.

So as of writing this article our St. Patrick's Day Video has nearly 50K views,( 82% organic ) been featured on,,, Ireland AM,, Irish Examiner, Storyful WorldWide, Ocean Fm, The Irish Times, and had been shared over 300 times from the original post alone.

So why did we make this fun little video?

Here at Spicy Dog Media our aim it to be at the forefront of Internet Video - simple.

So we decided to do this experiment to see how far we could really take it. The video was orchestrated over months, and had numerous moving parts. The snow of the previous weeks didn't really help either, we had to postpone the original shoot by 12 days, which meant our whole distribution plan was destroyed. Life... hey?

The video only had 3 full days to build traction, because the second Paddy's Day was over, the video was inevitably a dead duck.

What I'd say to potential clients, or anyone reading this is simple. If the content isn't good you're not going anywhere. No matter how much advertising money you may spend. Content is King.

Here's our top tips to having successful internet video:

  • Keep It short - anything over 2min and you're not going to be favoured on the Facebook ranking system.
  • Keep It relevant - Paddy's Day video before Paddy's Day make's sense ...... right?
  • Make sure it's quality. - If you're not confident you can produce quality content, chances are you need to get someone like us in to make sure your idea goes places.
  • Resist the urge to brand - Facebook and other social media sites hate branding everywhere, you'll notice in our video we don't mention Spicy Dog Media once. If the content is good enough the consumer will come via your page.
  •  Keep the text above the post, snappy engaging and don't use any 'spam like' wording. Don't demand anything on the post. Anything like Tag, Share, Like, any real call's to Action will be denoted by Facebook as Spam and your ranking will be effected which in turn means your content won't be seen. Be smart with your text, notice how we encouraged people to tag friends by saying "  Know anyone who loves St. Patrick’s Day this much? "

A snowy week at Spicy Dog Media HQ!

Alot happening in the past few days with the Spicy Dog Team. This week we were scheduled to shoot our epic St.Patrick's day video but the shoot itself has been postponed, so it's going to be a tight turnaround! We're still as pumped as ever. Social media is really being pushed within the Spicy Dog Team, we've just set up our Instagram page which you should check out here:  And we've also been pushing our Facebook page, we're new ducks to a big pond so please give us a like and watch this space. We're currently working on a bunch of Social Media Posts to be published in the next few days!

We know we're crazy about social media, but here's a little video we found online that shows just how crazy some people are about their phones. We found this fascinating!

Finally our founder Peter had been pitching to an Enterprise Dragon's Den panel in association with IADT, earlier on in the week and won us here at the Spicy Dog Team Hot-Desking Space within the IADT Media Cube!

This Week in Spicy Dog Media

We're super super busy this week with Spicy Dog Media. Our recent documentary has just gone into first phase editing, which we're super excited to share a sneaky trailer soon! Our Facebook video featuring our founder Peter has gained a nice bit of traction in the last couple of days with a couple of thousand views, you can check it out here:

What's new in the world of Social Media?

The big upset last week was of course the snapchat update, which interestingly saw their stock price rise ... why? Stock prices are based on how much money a company can make, and Snapchat's new update is certainly tailored for the advertisers of the platform. However us here at Spicy Dog Media think it won't be long until it's users backlash may affect the price holding.

We're also super excited about our Epic St Patrick's Day Video which is currently in pre-production and we cannot wait to share, we hope it's going to be a viral hit!
