What makes a good video? How do you make a corporate video successful?

With the internet essentially becoming one big movie theatre for video content, its natural to want your videos to stand out from the crowd.

Some of the keys to a successful video are outlined below. But essentially the main thing you need to understand is that if you don’t know your audience your production will never be as great as it could be! We’ve been in this game a long time now, and we always get asked the same questions, how do I make a good video? And why do some videos preform better than others? We always revert back to, who is going to watch this video… and how do we make it as engaging as possible for them?

1. Tell A Story

Since the dawn of man humans have been obsessed with telling stories. Just remember we are visual creatures this is why videos are so consistently effective. A good production should always tell a story. Whether that’s your brands story, your mission ….or simply a story that just needs to be told.

Humans connect with humans. So the more you approach your video like a storytelling technique the more likely your audience is going to connect with your content.

2. Branding Your Videos

Make sure your branding is on point throughout the video. We often include lovely logo animations for our corporate video productions or sometimes we would ensure that branding is consistent within the video itself. A good well branded video will a) make your video easy to find again and b) make it more memorable for the brand itself. There are some unique things you can do with your branding to ensure your videos stay at the top, including incorporating logos into graphics on the screen.

3. Hook your audience early with Video

CATCH THEM IN THE FIRST 3 SECONDS OR YOU’RE DONE. SIMPLE.

TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram – all these platforms are designed around facilitating our ever depleting attention spans.

Start with a hook, and then move to your main aspect. This can be difficult with corporate productions, or for state bodies where branding is so important. We would always say, what’s more important having a video you love but nobody sees? Or having a video everybody loves, and everybody sees?

AREAS TO CONSIDER:

A. TITLES:

Keep in mind your SEO optimisation, where is your video going to be seen? What keywords are you targeting? For us we always use video production, and video in our titles because that’s the number one word we want to be associated with. Whether you’re in construction, or you run a dental surgery.. know the importance of optimising your titles.

B. THUMBNAILS

A thumbnail is the image you see before you click play. We general don’t provide thumbnail services for our video production clients, but we often give advice on their importance. YouTube videos are especially predicated on the quality of your thumbnail. Make sure your thumbnails make the viewer want to click, make it easy to read, and easy to see!

4. Keep it short. Get to the point.

Don’t do longer than 2-3min if it’s for online. We often produce promotional videos in Ireland for our clients and we would never recommend a promo video to be longer than 3mins. Any longer and the audience simply aint gonna stay!

Keep your messaging and your call to action concise and to the point.

How to make a corporate video – step by step

At Spicy Dog Media we’re always getting emails, and phone-calls about how it actually works.

How to make a promotional video, or How to make a video for business are the key areas covered here. At Spicy Dog Media we are the video production experts!

Lots of business owners, and marketing managers recognise the importance of video for their business, often times it’s a case of not knowing where to start. In this post I want to dive into how we operate, and how we help tell stories. Which will hopefully encourage you to pick up the phone and give me a call…. too busy? … shoot us an email over in our contact section and we’ll be back to you within 10working hours.

Step1. Pre-Production.

We work with brands, and business owners to really understand what they’re trying to achieve. We really try to understand what your goals are. Often times people have a specific product or area of their service they want to promote, and we’ll often focus on that first. At Spicy Dog Media, corporate video production is something we’re very experienced in. So even if you’re not promoting a particular product or service, but you’re just looking to put your business on the map, we have the skills and the knowledge to do so. Pre-production is essentially making sure we have a concrete plan in place so that when shoot day comes around, everything goes as smoothly as possible. Our top tip here is to really try and get across the type of video you’re looking to produce. Often times it helps if you’ve found a sample online or elsewhere of something similar. Giving us examples often speeds up the process, and makes things more clear! Often times we will arrange a Zoom or Skype call with your team and hash out any details that have not been covered yet. We will also sort out the logistics of Who, Where and When. Schedules, locations, scripts, and general plans and logistics will all be arranged and finalised prior to our shoot date.

Step2. Production.

Once we’ve set a date to bring your brand to life it’s all about shooting. We’ll usually arrive a little early and starting setting up. Depending on the size and scale of the shoot this set-up time can differ. We may have a number of crew members on location, or for smaller scale jobs it may be just our key team members. Our aim when producing video content for business’ is to assure that shooting days go as smoothly as possible. We will work through our shooting schedule and assure that all our shots, and required footage are gathered. Often times we are playing second fiddle to mother nature so there can sometimes be some chopping and changing of the schedule depending on rain condition etc. Once we’re finished shooting, we wrap up and back up all of the data. Once the shoot is over, the client can really relax, as we really take over from here, as we move into post-production stage. At the end of every shooting day, the client, and marketing managers will receive ‘Selects’ from the day, to give an insight into the quality of footage we managed to shoot throughout the day.

Step3. Post-Production + Delivery.

Generally first drafts can take up to 4-5weeks to come through. There are various factors that can speed up or slow down an edit. We’ll be busy editing your video to the highest standard. Often times our videos include, graphics overlaid, voice-overs added, and a general professional and slick edit of all our footage. Once we send over Draft1 you then have the opportunity to request any changes to the video you may deem necessary, these can often be text changes, or swapping around footage and shots. Once we’ve been given the green-light we send you a high resolution copy of your final version via our sharing platform, where you can download from. We also often provide additional after-care support, to encourage business owners to use their video effectively. We can provide a range of top-tips to make sure you get the best from your video once it’s finished!
